About 20 Feet From Lions

My wife and I have been fortunate to travel extensively over the years, visiting more than seventy countries across six continents. Along the way we’ve experienced many unforgettable moments — encounters with wildlife, unexpected discoveries in cities, and quiet places that few travelers ever see.

This website is a place to share some of those experiences and the stories behind them.

The name 20 Feet From Lions comes from a moment on safari in Africa when we suddenly realized just how close we were to two lions standing beside our vehicle. It was one of those travel moments that instantly reminds you that the world is far bigger and more unpredictable than we often imagine.

Most of the photos and videos on this site were taken spontaneously during our travels, often with a phone or small camera while events were actually unfolding. I’m not a professional photographer, and the goal here isn’t perfect images — the goal is to capture real moments as they happened.
